Elizabeth Hay is a metalsmith who has been creating her art jewelry in Centre County since 2007. Her work focuses on capturing leaves, flowers, and natural textures, and then recreating these in sterling sterling, combined with gems and stones.
She makes detailed molds from elements of her Bellefonte gardens. She then creates an array of jewelry using these pieces, combined with traditional metalsmithing techniques.
Ideas for her art come from her abundant gardens and the Pennsylvania landscapes. Nature provides endless inspiration, from the simple linear shapes of branches and shadows, to the lush fullness of blossoms and buds, to the twining silhouettes of vines.
Elizabeth’s new pieces includes woodland creatures, and this spring she will be launching a new collection of enameled jewelry with luminous colors.
Not only is Elizabeth an artist, she also owns the shop Art a la Carte, in downtown Bellefonte, where she showcases the work of dozens of local artists.
She carefully juries and curates artists who are invited to be part of the shop. Her criteria for an artist joining Art a la Carte includes the artist having a unique voice, excellent quality in craftsmanship, and working in art or fine craft. Selections of decorative and functional work are available, including jewelry, pottery, fiber arts, woodwork, glass, plus more.
You will find locally-known artists’ work, plus talented emerging artists. Elizabeth enjoys mentoring new artists in defining their voice, creating collections, branding and display, and preparing to participate in juried shows.
Elizabeth’s background training at Saks Fifth Avenue in NYC for management, design, and product display means that you can expect a unique experience and exceptional customer service.
