You Can Borrow More Than Just Books at the Bellefonte Library
When librarians are asked about what they wish people knew about public libraries, one of their most common answers is: “People can borrow so much more than books!”. Public libraries are intended to serve everyone, and not everyone is a book lover. Some of the interesting non-book items that many public libraries will lend are: DVDs, CDs, video games, board games, CD players, and tools. Libraries also give access to many online resources that people would not have access to normally. Some examples of these e-resources include video streaming services, webinars, author talks, self-paced classes, and research databases. In short, public libraries are hubs for the information and entertainment you’re seeking. The best part is: they’re FREE.
So, what non-books can you borrow at the Bellefonte Library? First of all, you can borrow DVDs from one of the most impressive collections in Centre County. The collection of DVDs is managed by Lisa Shaffer, Bellefonte Library’s Bibliographic Librarian and resident film buff. She fills it with popular TV series and movies that you can only find via expensive streaming platforms like MAX, indie films, and classic films from The Criterion Collection. In addition to DVDs, you can also borrow CDs of music and audiobooks. If you don’t have access to a CD player to listen, you can either borrow one of the library’s CD players or borrow a Playaway* audiobook. Other technological tools, like video magnifiers and projectors, are also available for checkout. You can even borrow museum passes to the Discovery Space in State College. Last but not least: you can borrow ukuleles from the library!
The Bellefonte Library is the perfect place for anyone to explore their interests and all the information that the world has to offer. Staff at the library are more than happy to help visitors navigate the collections and technology within. Stop by, explore, and get a library card if you don’t already have one.
