Emma Proctor is a junior in Profe McManus' Spanish 4 Honors/Pre-AP class at Bellefonte Area High School. She was 1 of only 17 students worldwide to predict a perfect bracket in a Spanish music event known as Locotubre! This is an incredible feat.
Locotubre involves thousands of Spanish students around the world that vote in a single elimination music bracket beginning in October and ending in November. This year's theme for all the songs was different genres of Spanish music.
Before the competition began, students in Spanish classes at the high school level previewed songs and made prediction brackets. A Spanish teacher from Michigan, Señor Ashby, organizes this competition annually (along with Locura de Marzo in March). He has become somewhat of a celebrity and the pool of participants around the world continues to grow exponentially every year. To prepare for the competition students in the Spanish classes listened to songs; learned about them, the artists, lyrics, and accompanying dances; and wrote/spoke Spanish to discuss their thoughts and opinions about the songs.
When asked how she picked her song choices, Emma responded with, “I guess I had luck picking out the songs! When I was picking out the songs, I picked the ones that had the best vibe!”
Emma received an Amazon gift card from Señor Ashby himself for having a perfect bracket. Emma is the very first Bellefonte Area High School student to predict a perfect bracket for Locotubre!
